Sarah Champion MP Calls for Urgent Action to Defend UK Glass Industry

Sarah Champion, Member of Parliament for Rotherham, will urge the Government to rethink fees that could destroy UK glass packaging producers. Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is designed to hold packaging producers responsible for recycling costs throughout their products’ lifespans. However, fees for glass are being introduced two years before equivalent costs for plastic and aluminium.

Sarah Champion MP urges the UK Government to act on illegal deforestation and support Rotherham’s green businesses

Sarah Champion, Member of Parliament for Rotherham, gave a speech on deforestation linked to UK supply chains. She urged for more support for Rotherham businesses who are leading the fight in a sustainable future.

Rotherham’s Templeborough Power Station, a biomass plant, sustainably converts waste wood into energy. The 260,000 tonnes of recycled sawdust and wood chippings are provided by local recycling business, Seras. The wood they use would otherwise end up in landfill.

Sarah Champion MP brings her fight for more allotments to Parliament

Sarah Champion, Member of Parliament for Rotherham, has tabled an amendment to the Planning and Infrastructure Bill to encourage more allotment and community garden land, as part of the Government’s planning reforms. 

The UK currently has a shortage of allotments, despite high demand. An estimated 90,000 people are on a waiting list.  

She has been working with Mike Farrell, local Rotherham Resident and Chair of the National Allotment Society (NAS), to campaign for the changes.

Sarah Champion MP to Act to Protect Residents from Unwelcome Landfill Sites

Sarah Champion, Member of Parliament for Rotherham will seek to amend the Planning and Infrastructure Bill to prevent unscrupulous developers from exploiting loopholes in planning legislation to by-pass scrutiny for landfill sites.


Sarah has tabled an amendment that will cause un-utilised planning permission for landfill sites to lapse should the site be dormant for more than 10 years.
