Sarah was delighted to attend┬áWestminster Flu Day today.┬áThe annual event┬áincludes┬áa flu vaccine clinic in the House of Commons, and is aimed at helping to raise awarness of flu as well as to encourage┬áconstituents to get this seasonÔÇÖs flu vaccine.┬á Last year, 75.7% of people over 65 years and 53% in the 'at risk' groups were vaccinated against flu in Rotherham compared with the national averages of 73.4% for the over 65s and 51.3% for those ÔÇÿat riskÔÇÖ.

Sarah┬ásaid ÔÇ£Flu can be a very serious illness for certain groups of people. I would therefore encourage all those that are over the age of 65 or are in one of the ÔÇÿat riskÔÇÖ groups to visit their surgeries and get vaccinated.ÔÇØ

Dr Dan Poulter MP, Minister for Health added ÔÇ£The seasonal flu vaccination is important to help protect those people who are more susceptible to serious complications or even death from flu.ÔÇØ

Those in 'at risk' groups include pregnant women, the elderly, people suffering from long term serious health conditions, carers and healthcare professionals. You can obtain the flu vaccine by contacting your local GP. More information about flu, and the flu vaccine is available on the NHS website.
