Sarah Champion, Member of Parliament for Rotherham, is a core participant in the IICSA (Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse) current investigation into organised networks of abuses, often called Grooming Gangs.

Sarah Champion MP has called for the Government to take immediate action to prevent mass unemployment when coronavirus income support schemes begin to come to an end.

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme is currently scheduled to close on 31st October. The Self-Employed Income Support Scheme is scheduled to close on 19th October.

Sarah Champion MP, Member of Parliament for Rotherham has today called on the government to keep its word to those left unable to work due to coronavirus restrictions.

The Treasury Committee recently reported that more than a million people have been unable to access support under either the Job Retention Scheme (JRS) or the Self Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS). This includes those who have only recently become self-employed and those who have recently changed jobs and were not included on a PAYE submission before 19th March.

Sarah Champion, Member of Parliament for Rotherham today called for the Government to do everything that it can to support workers at Rolls Royce and McLaren who are facing redundancy as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Following the Prime Minister’s statement that the Department for International Development (DFID) is being incorporated into the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), International Development Committee Chair, Sarah Champion MP, said:

“At a time when the future for so many people in developing nations has never looked worse, with existing challenges of violence, famine and disease compounded with the devastating effects of coronavirus, the PMs timing couldn’t be worse. The future for the UK’s world-leading Government humanitarian work is now in jeopardy.
