Sarah Champion, MP for Rotherham and Chair of the APPG on Prostitution, responds to data released by the Modern Slavery Helpline on the extent and nature of sexual exploitation in the UK between July 2018 and July 2019:
“This vital data highlights the horror of sexual exploitation in this country. While we have made great progress in identifying victims in recent years, it is important to remember they only represents a tiny portion of the girls actually victimised by pimps and traffickers in the UK.

‘Criminal justice agencies need to answer for falling rape charges,’ says Sarah Champion MP.
Sarah Champion, MP for Rotherham and Chair of the APPG on Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse responded to publication of the Crown Prosecution Service’s annual Violence Against Women and Girls report:
“This data makes plain the shocking collapse in CPS decisions to charge rape cases. The CPS are blaming this in part on the large rise in the number of cases administratively finalised (where police do not respond to CPS requests for more information about a case and the file cannot proceed). For rape cases this now stands at 28.6%, for child abuse at 17.2%.

Government plans to introduce victims pledge card after campaigning by Sarah Champion MP.

Parliamentary inquiry reveals chronic failure of police and CPS to secure justice for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse
The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse, chaired by Sarah Champion MP, today published an alarming report on the police and Crown Prosecution Service response to adult survivors of child sexual abuse. Nearly 400 survivors of child sexual abuse contributed to the cross-party parliamentary inquiry over a six-month period.
