Sarah Champion MP responds to UK Government Responsible Business Conduct Review
Responding to the written statement Sarah Champion MP said:
"This announcement is an important first step to remove forced labour and human rights abuses from our supply chains, but I urge the Government to go further.
The threshold of £350 million excludes the majority of UK-based businesses, public bodies are also not in scope.
This shift brings us into alignment with the current EU Due Diligence framework, but it’s disappointing that it does not go as far as a forced labour import ban that other countries have introduced.
I urge the Government to build on this announcement, and also look at all aspects of its own procurement to make sure we reward good work practices and prioritise buying British."
