Sarah Champion MP grills the Prime Minister on how he is using taxpayer money

Sarah Champion, Member of Parliament for Rotherham, was one of 12 MPs who questioned the Prime Minister in today’s Liaison Committee session. This in her capacity as Chair of the International Development Select Committee.

She grilled the Prime Minister on a range of topics; from refugee costs in the UK, to the effectiveness of taxpayer money spent on overseas aid.

Commenting, Sarah said:

As select committee chair, it is my job to hold the Government to account regardless of party politics. Parliamentary scrutiny is vital to ensure the Government is spending taxpayer money effectively.”

“I challenged the Prime Minister on how he is using public money in the aid budget. Done right, aid keeps us all safe and prosperous while also preventing global instability.”

The Liaison Committee is comprised of the 20 chairs of the House of Commons select committees and meets three times a year to scrutinise the Prime Minister on government policy and spending.

The Prime Minister was also questioned by other Select Committee Chairs on the topics of growth, defence, welfare reforms and health.

Sarah Champion was appointed Chair of the International Development Select Committee in September, when she was re-elected by fellow MPs for another 4-year term.
