Sarah Champion MP welcomes funding boost for local employment support in Rotherham.
Sarah Champion, Member of Parliament for Rotherham, has welcomed £10million in announced Government funding to South Yorkshire’s ‘Inactivity Trailblazer’, with Rotherham set to benefit. [1]
Inactivity Trailblazers are innovative programmes aimed at supporting people who face complex, personal barriers that have kept them locked out of the jobs market. Trailblazers put local authorities in control of designing local solutions which tackle the root causes of unemployment - from mental health struggles to lack of skills and social isolation.
Rather than imposing a one-size-fits-all approach, areas can use the funding to shape the support around what works best for their communities and target funding where it’s needed most – whether that's addressing local job markets, cultural needs, or specific challenges their residents face.
Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Pat McFadden said:
“For too long too many people have been locked out of the job market, which fails them and fails our economy.”
“That is why we are doing things differently – putting local leaders in the driving seat so the right support goes to their community.”
Commenting, Champion said:
“I’m delighted that Rotherham is set to benefit from the South Yorkshire’s ‘Inactivity Trailblazer’. Rotherham will have the freedom to target support where it’s needed most.”
“This is a step forward for a fairer and more accessible job market for those seeking to come back to full-time employment.”
