Sarah Champion MP Raises Rotherham Patient Experiences with Health Authorities

Sarah Champion MP has pledged to do all that she can to ensure that the Government delivers for NHS services in Rotherham.

Following the conclusion of a Rotherham-wide survey on the NHS, Sarah has written to leaders of Rotherham health authorities to share the survey’s findings.

Amongst key findings of the survey, which was completed by 712 people, were:

  • 73.68% of category 1 emergency ambulance calls in Rotherham were left waiting longer than the target average time of 7 minutes.

  • 76.4% of category 2 ambulance calls in Rotherham were left waiting longer than the target average time of 18 minutes.

  • 64.39% of patients visiting Accident & Emergency were left waiting more than 4 hours for treatment.

  • 41.9% of patients did not feel they received satisfactory treatment at A&E.

  • 72% felt the care CAMHS gave their child did not meet their expectations.

In letters to Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust, South Yorkshire NHS Integrated Care Board and Yorkshire Ambulance Service, Sarah pledged to work in Westminster to fight for the resources the health services need to deliver for Rotherham residents.

    Commenting, Sarah said:

“In responses to my survey, constituents were clear that they do not blame hard working doctors, nurses and NHS staff for the problems they have faced in accessing NHS care. The staff are working tirelessly to deliver for their patients, and we owe it to them to ensure they have everything that they need to do so.’

‘These issues are not unique to Rotherham. The Government not invested appropriately and has normalised crisis in the NHS. Waiting lists are soaring, response times for ambulances are measured in hours and people are finding it harder and harder just to see a doctor.’

‘The NHS deserves better, and I am looking forward to hearing from health leaders about how best I can support them in Westminster to deliver the standard of care people in Rotherham deserve.”
