Sarah Champion Statement on the Publication of the Report of the Independent Investigation into the Care and Treatment of Yusuf Mahmud Nazir
“Yusuf’s death was a tragedy, and my heart goes out to his family and loved ones for their loss. I know the publication of this report will be an incredibly difficult time for them.’
‘I have deep admiration for Yusuf’s family’s determination to make sure that no one else suffers as they have. While nothing can compensate for the loss of Yusuf, I do hope that this report will provide some consolation that our health system will be strengthened in the future.’
‘It is vital that the findings of the report are understood and acted upon throughout the NHS. The report’s recommendations must be implemented in full and without delay.’
‘The Government needs to take immediate steps to ensure all parents of sick children are properly listened to and supported when raising concerns.’
‘This should include commissioning research into why parents raise concerns to health services, developing a mechanism to measure this, and preventing conflict between parents and key staff/services when trying to access support.’
‘We all rely upon the NHS to be there in our time for us in our time of need. I hope that the findings of the report will ensure that the care, treatment, and support provided, particularly to children, is of the highest possible standard.”
