Sarah Champion MP has warned the Chancellor not to short change Rotherham in next week's budget after figures revealed the unfairness of Tory Government cuts to the area. According to Labour research, Rotherham Council will have lost over 47 million from its spending power by 2020, equivalent to 409 per household. Meanwhile, wealthier areas will see an increase in spending after George Osborne handed hundreds of millions of pounds to Tory councils ahead of this May's council elections.

Affluent areas like South Cambridgeshire have seen an increase of 14 per household whereas Rotherham has continued to bear the brunt of Tory cuts.

The figures revealed that the Yorkshire and Humberside region as a whole will have lost over £852 million from its spending power by 2020.

Sarah Champion said:

Despite plenty of promises to protect local services, the reality is that Rotherham and Yorkshire continue to suffer from Tory cuts.

The Chancellor has an opportunity in the upcoming budget to stop punishing Rotherham and other constituencies like it by stopping his practice of taking millions from our local economies and handing it over to wealthy Conservative areas.
