SARAH CHAMPION SLAMS COUNCIL PLANS TO SLASH EARLY HELP PROVISION FOR TOWN'S YOUTH

Rotherham MP Sarah Champion has urged Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC) to halt their plans to close down youth services and cut youth worker posts in the Borough. RMBC plan to make over £1 million of savings from Early Help provision, with significant cuts and changes to be made to the town's current open for all model of youth service provision.

The current model of youth provision means that all young people can receive youth services and be in contact with youth workers in parks, streets and in the community.

Sarah said:

"Youth workers are the first line of defence in tackling CSE, sexual violence, hate crimes and radicalisation. Should the drastic cuts proposed be allowed to proceed, I am gravely concerned that RMBC will limit itself only to its statutory duties and that the result could be catastrophic."

The proposals are due to be considered by the Council's Oversight and Scrutiny Board on 12th February 2016.
