Serious Crime Bill is a chance to increase protections for children at risk of sexual abuse, says Rotherham MP

Sarah Champion, Member of Parliament for Rotherham, has continued her fight to make changes to the law that better protect children at risk of sexual exploitation. Sarah will be serving on the Serious Crime Bill Committee and this week in the House of Commons outlined the key issues relating to child protection that she wants to focus on.

One of those is to put child abduction warning notices on a statutory footing, allowing police more powers to intervene to protect at risk children. At the moment, despite being able to issue the notices, officers cannot prosecute until the contact escalates to abuse.
